It can no longer be assumed in a client/server LAN environment that all communications would necessarily be between a remote site and a central location, as the hierarchical networks assumed In a client/server environment with LANs connected by WANs, literally any client could need to access any server, no matter where in the corporation the client or the server PC happened to be Client/server LANs at corporate sites that need to be connected are better served by peer, meshconnected networks This need for a different type of private corporate network created real problems The number of links and ports needed for peer, mesh-connected private LAN networks was much higher than the modest link and port needs in the older hierarchical, star environment Figure 16 points out the problem A mesh network consists of direct point-to-point links between every pair of locations (LANs) on the corporate network.

You can set the horizontal alignment attribute, align, to specify the default alignment, or left, right, or center alignment, for the contents of a cell, column, or row. HTML comments are fairly simple to include in your document, as they have a simple format. A comment in your document might resemble the following:

have the spreadsheet perform as few calculations as possible. In the best of all possible worlds, a spreadsheet with 60,000 rows of data should crunch numbers almost as well as one with 1,600 rows of data. The only difference should be that one of them is bigger. It might take more disk space and time to save a file, but performance-wise there shouldn t be much difference. That s the theory, anyhow. You re about to see how close we can get to theory. In the example shown a little later, you ll encounter a spreadsheet with close to 120,000 rows of data. If you design things correctly, you ll be able to push the envelope pretty close to the limit. To avoid the nightmares in managing the spreadsheet, keep any formulas and custom formatting as far away as possible from the source data. Just make sure that the source data you need to work with is properly structured so that the analysis on limited portions can be done without having to worry about the data structure. For example, if you ll be looking up countries based on a two-letter code or some other kind of index, and you have 60,000 rows of raw data, you need to make sure that all 60,000 rows possess valid codes. I want to provide one more compelling reason to separate your computational formulas from your data. When they are separated, it becomes an easy process to update your data without touching the rest of the spreadsheet. In terms of reliability, time, and cost, the results are a major economic savings.
